Just heard Mariucci talking about maybe, possibly, if his health is well, if he agrees with the Lion's concept, if he passes the doctors tests, maybe... signing Jeff Garcia to the Detroit Lions!!
Is this good or bad? I'm pretty sure I liked the guy, but why is he getting released from all the other teams?
Hmmmm...
Well, he sure as hell is better than the Ty Detmer 'veteran quarterback' debacle from a few years ago... I think.
Hmmm....
Well, Hell, anyone is better than JoMo!!!
Hmmm.....
Well, no one could be worse than JoMo
Hmmm...
Uh oh, just heard them talking about Kurt Warner being a free agent... DON'T DO IT!! I'm going to puke if they sign Warner, oh jeez, I'm starting to feel like I'm at a Lions game and we're winning by a lot in the 4th quarter when all of a sudden... well you know the rest if you're a fellow Lion's fan.
I still want some damn DEFENSE Mooch!!!
I still need my really awesome Linebacker, Oh and get me some bad ass corners & safeties dammit! Rogers & Hall could use a little help here!
I decided to do a public service for all you out-of-towners that will be coming into Detroit for Super Bowl XL (that's 40 for people that don't remember their roman numerals). There is bound to be a ton of information that is going to be floating around on the internet about Detroit hosting the Super Bowl, along with a ton of 'great places to stay and places to visit'. Of course all those 'great places' are trying to get your cash, so how do you know if it's the truth or not? Well....
Being the kind, honest, fun, Lion fan, gal-about-town that I am... I have decided to avail myself to all of you and bring some gritty reality and no-holds-barred honesty about our 'lovely' shitty (I mean city, oops) of Detroit. Hopefully Kwami Kilpatrick won't come down on my ass and have his bodyguards beat the crap out of me, but if I go missing you now know who to peg for my disappearance.
Don't stay in the actual city of Detroit, you're not going to be casually strolling around anywhere at night anyway... TRUST ME! Downtown Detroit is a joke, and I'm sure you will all be sorely disappointed with Kwami, along with Coleman Young's version of a downtown.
To give you a brief history of the structure of Metro-Detroit. What I'm about to say is unfortunately 'just the facts' as Joe Friday would say. Back in the sixties there was a race-riot, and Coleman Young became Mayor and held the office for the next 20 years. Coleman was what many would define as a reverse-racist and soundly divided the black & white races. Nor was he shy about it. This led to the an exodus of whites moving OUT of the city of Detroit. Eventually business followed.
Eminem's movie "8 Mile". Was a wonderful yet poignant choice for the name of the movie. In Metro-Detroit, 8 Mile is the dividing line between Detroit (the city proper) and it's northern suburbs (part of Metro-Detroit). Metro-Detroit actually encompasses all points east, south & west of Detroit, with different 'dividing' roads. 8 Mile just happens to be the one that separates the Northern Suburbs.
The closer you live to 8 Mile, the closer you are to Detroit. The exodus from Detroit moved North and continues to move farther and farther North and/or West. If you start from the Northern suburbs (at this point in time) 32 Mile Road, it is sort of still farm land. The good-ole country fed families usually live out here, for example one of those cities is Romeo ('I'm a cowboy baby, Kid Rock's hometown'). The area is more what people would consider quaint with older, siding type farm homes with a small downtown. As you move south through the mile roads you will be able to judge the wealth of the city you are in by not only how big the homes are, but how much brick coverage there are on the homes.
For any smart piggie knows that the big bad wolf can't huff & puff and blow your house down as easily with all that brick. And believe me, in Michigan, Mother Nature is one tough broad! We feel the extreme of EVERY season! Every season comes barreling through our state in all it's individual glory. Those that can't stand the changes are now somewhere in Florida or Arizona (but I digress....).
The farther south you move towards Detroit, the smaller, closer & more run down the area gets (maybe really starting to show around 10 & 1/2 mile) and you'll start noticing the bars on the business and see the infamous "Cash your check here" & "We accept Foodstamps" that seem to indicate the poorer sections of anytown, USA. You eventually get just north of 8 Mile and hit South Warren and you might see some aluminum trailer parks ('I'm the real Slim Shady', Eminem's hometown).
Due (in my opinion, of course) mainly to Mayor Young's disdain for us white folk, the white folk pretty much said, 'up yours too Coleman' and as they all moved farther out of Detroit, little mini-downtown areas cropped up. Two of the most popular being Royal Oak and Birmingham. These are probably the cities you should look into staying at. They both have a fun, safe downtown area (only a few blocks) with clubs and restaurants. On the weekends, these are where most of us go to 'hang-out' dance, eat, have fun.
Also, another thing that absolutely SUCKS about the Metro-Detroit area is that we have NO mass transportation. You WILL need to rent a car, which brings up another reason as to why it is good to try & get a room in the downtown area's I mentioned. If you plan on having a couple drinks and drive - forget the Superbowl, you'll find yourself in a cell with some MADD members plotting your demise. Cabs are just about non-existent and cost an arm & a leg, and as mentioned earlier we don't have buses, or els, or subways. Make sure you have a designated driver or stay somewhere close enough that you can walk SAFELY home to your hotel room.
Hope this was helpful, and I'll try & post more info as to some fun places. I think I'll add a 'shout-box' to this site too, like I did to my Survivor page and other's can help out our out-of-towners as well. Oh, and I'll be happy to accept a couple of Super Bowl tickets for me and Stefani that you might offer out of the goodness of your heart for being so helpful and telling it how it is with total disgregard for my own safety. Just kidding (sort-of)
